What would we do without the internet?

August 29, 2008 16:52 by vicki

Over the weekend I was visiting a friend and her new house, after dinner and mucho glasses of vino a sing-song began as is prone to happen whenever this friend is around. Now luckily for all present she has a voice that can carry a sing-song and its not cringeworthy stuff that you might see on the x-factor !

Anyhow as I was saying the sing-song started, she had a song in her head and couldn't think of the beginning or most of the words but was adamant she had to sing this song in honour of Ronnie Drew so onto Google at 3am to find the words to "The Parting Glass" and a very nice rendition she did of it as well.

It got me thinking (on Sunday morning) though about Google and technology in general, I mean what did we do before the Internet? how did we find out this stuff? What happened when you saw someone in a movie or programme and it annoyed you for days where you knew them from, what would we do without the net to search and solve the puzzle?

I guess in my case I wouldn't be doing this job, there would be no such thing as searching for a job using a computer on the old inter-web!! Recruiting on-line has become such a vital source of candidates for recruiters and a hugely important way for jobseekers to find jobs, stay aware of whats going on in their market or industry and find information about writing CV's or coverletters or some such thing, we take it for granted I suppose...

So to conclude todays musing, have a think about what it would be like to not have the Internet, pop a note in the comments below and let us know what would you miss?

I also agree its sad for me to be thinking about this on a Sunday morning when I should have been nursing the hangover - ouch!! Lets all take a moment to remember  the legend that was Ronnie Drew at some stage today...
