The best job in the world?

March 4, 2009 09:50 by vicki

As you all have no doubt heard on the radio stations and in the papers over the last few days there is an Irish person in the shortlist for what has been titled "The best job in the world". I heard about this role a few months ago when it was first reported in the papers but I never got round to taking a look at the website until today and all I can say is WOW.

Here is some of the spec for the role which received over 35,000 applicants (I wonder why?);

The role of Island Caretaker is a six-month contract, based on luxurious Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef. It’s a live-in position with flexible working hours and key responsibilities include exploring the islands of the Great Barrier Reef to discover what the area has to offer. You’ll be required to report back on your adventures to Tourism Queensland headquarters in Brisbane (and the rest of the world) via weekly blogs, photo diary, video updates and ongoing media interviews. On offer is a unique opportunity to help promote the wondrous Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. The full spec if you want to completely depress yourself can be found here.

I'm wondering this morning if anyone I know applied for the role? Did anyone you know apply? Or did any of our users throw their hat in the ring? Let us know in the comments below.

Oh and if you do want to vote for the Irish applicant, his name is George and here's his page

I thought of applying. The funniest thing if that I found myself imagining I got that job. It was scary rally. It got to my dreams... In the end I had to force myself in not even thinking about it.

It is strange what a recession does to your mood...
