Qualifications: First level registration

Previous managerial training / experience, an advantage

Registered on the An Board Altranais live register

Previous Geriatric nursing experience desirable

Duties and Responsibilities
1. The initial responsibility is to:

  • Direct and guide the Nurses and Senior Care Assistants
  • Maximise bed occupancy
  • Liaise with and advise as necessary with the Home Manager


2. Develop and maintain key organisational relationships both internally with staff and residents etc. and externally with relatives, health boards etc.

2. Ensure the delivery of the highest standards of nursing, social care, support and advice, which meets the individual needs of each resident within the Nursing Home and the Company Development Objectives through implementation and the agreed development of:


  • Nursing Home’s Philosophy of Care
  • Appropriate skill mix/care hours meeting legislative requirements
  • Implementation of the Named Nurse concept
  • Establish written standards of care and audit against the written standard in order to identify non-conformances and implement corrective actions
  • Establish a good rapport with external community agencies bringing the local community into the Home and facilitating residents to attend functions/activities within the local community
  • Monitor all complaints in conjunction with the Home Manager thus ensuring that each is documented to include the investigation and outcome


3. Implement Company Health and Safety to safeguard the welfare of staff, residents and others


4. Human Resources Function:
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of staff
  • Ensure human resource management practices within the Home comply with all current Company guidelines
  • Ensure all registered nurses employed in the home are on the “live” An Bord Altranais Register and that a record of their Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) are photocopied and retained on their Employee File


Note:
This job description is intended to give an appreciation of the role envisaged for the Clinical Nurse Manager however, given the nature of the work it must be stressed that maximum flexibility is required. The CNM will be part of the Nursing Home roster for a minimum of 24 hours in the week.

It does not attempt to detail every activity. Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed with the post holder periodically by the Home Manager and/or Operations Manager.
