Senior Packaging Design Engineer
Job Purpose:
- Develops new technology, packaging, label material (label specifications, directions for use (DFUs)), materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision. Independently, or as a member of a team, develops, directs, and executes plans for a major segment of complex projects
- Compiles, analyzes and reports operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes, or materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a Lead role for Packaging & Label Design Projects for the Galway IC division.
- Participate in multifunctional teams with core focus on Packaging & Labeling Elements of applicable projects.
- Provide Technical guidance both internally through the core team and externally with support vendor base for Packaging related projects.
- Translate customer needs into product requirements and design specifications
- Generate and manage packaging & label related documentation, including specifications, test plans and reports, and other PDP documents.
- Assess the feasibility and soundness of alternative engineering processes, products, or equipment.
- Manage the report writing and completion of packaging testing for new product development and existing design improvements.
- Support the Packaging Engineering team in driving DFM/DFSS principles for support programs.
- Work cooperatively with various BSC departments, divisions, and suppliers, leading teams as assigned, to ensure an improved, practical, and consistent approach to packaging
- Co-ordinate the introduction and overall evaluation of new materials as required for the Packaging operation activity.
- Participate actively with a broad array of support Vendors in supporting all Packaging support requirements.
- Monitor specific in country regulations as they apply to Packaging Materials and Processes. Evolve (with the Design Assurance & Test Method Development Groups) test methods that comply with international standards for Packaging validation.
- Provide direct input to Sterilization Methods and process changes, with particular input on impacts from a Packaging perspective.
- Generates innovative and unique solutions to meet market needs; submit idea disclosures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined packages, products, processes or equipment.
- Interface with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices or packages
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Science, Quality Assurance or packaging technology
- Minimum of 6 years experience in a Health Care environment preferred.
- Strong team leader with the ability to identify and drive quality improvements.
- Extensive knowledge related to paperboard, corrugated, flexible packaging films, TyvekO, injection molded parts, and packaging equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in creation of label artworks, specifications and directions for use documents
- Familiarity with ASTM / ISTA package testing requirements.
- Strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects and timelines effectively.
- Experience leading the development and implementation of packaging projects.
- Experience working in a team environment with representatives from various departments and functions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills
