Company Description: Our client, an Irish multiple food retailer at the forefront of development, innovation and customer service in the Irish market. The brand is synonymous with quality in fresh foods and the fresh food department generates over half of the company sales.
We currently seek a dynamic individual to head up their ambient grocery buying team.
Key Responsibilities: To plan, manage and drive the purchasing and business development of this food category, leading the marketplace in product innovation, business differentiation, food safety and profitability.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•To lead a team of buyers and assistant buyers and take responsibility for performance management and development
•To ensure the buyers are achieving best costs possible for products through professional negotiation, innovation and effective management of supplier relationships
•To plan and oversee the buyers in retrieval of all supplier monies to budget
•To analyse margin information and use this to direct the buyers in how to improve their category cash margin
•Coach and lead the buying team to maximise all appropriate opportunities to generate sales
•To work with the pricing team and oversee a process which ensure that your buyers are adhering to the company pricing policies
•Work with the head of category planning, product development team, quality assurance and the purchasing director to agree range reviews for your categories
•Work with the marketing department to develop a marketing, advertising and communications strategy for dept
•Work with buyers and suppliers to develop clear supplier strategies for all fresh areas
Review relationships with partner suppliers in particular to ensure that the company is maximising benefits from such relationships
•Gain a full understanding of the Irish and World food retail markets – competition, categories, trends, retail markets and the supply base
Skills & Experience: You will have previous experience in a retail buying office environment working as a buyer.
Personal Characteristics: You will be a keen negotiator with a passion for food retailing or wholesaling, a people person with a commercial edge and a desire to drive your own business category forward. Ambitious, not only for yourself but for your company. Highly numerate and analytical with experience of managing profit and loss accounts
