Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing

Part time (aprox 3 days per week) (& full time during holiday cover ) The role requires a flexible person in relation to working hours, however for the right candidate a pattern that suits both hospital and candidate can be established.

Objective

To provide support to the Directors of Nursing ensuring excellence in patient care through a well educated and highly motivated team of carers and the effective and efficient use of resources.

Service Delivery



  • To provide clinical advice, direction and support to nursing staff enabling the development and maintenance of a quality nursing service.


  • To deputise for the Director of Nursing in her absence.


  • To co-ordinate effectively and efficiently all grades of staff directly and indirectly associated with the office of Director of Nursing.


  • To assist in co-ordinating the activities of the Nursing Department liasing with the Consultants, medical staff and, other health care professionals and service managers.


  • To lead, manage and motivate the nursing team, delegating responsibility and accountability to CNM2/CNM1 as appropriate.


  • To evaluate existing nursing records and documentation in each unit and where necessary implement which meet legal requirements and facilitates the best recording standards for the unit.


  • To maintain effective communications with CNM2/CNM1. To liase effectively with all departments within the hospital as well as external organisations to ensure the delivery of a quality service to the patients.


  • To participate in committees and meetings as appropriate and or requested.


  • To ensure all incidences or difficulties concerning patients and staff are reported to the Director of Nursing, documenting full details being aware of legal requirements and implications.

  • To work with Bed Manager, Consultants, CNM2/CNM1 Day Ward and Theatre Manager to develop and implement efficient utilisation of beds and theatre time in line with hospital admission policy.


  • To carry out patient visitations daily.


  • To receive reports on patient's progress during the day from the nursing staff and relay to Night Superintendent.


  • To maintain daily attendance records according to hospital policy and monthly to sign off same.
Education



  • To ensure levels of professionalism are maintained.


  • To keep up to date with the latest developments in medicine/nursing, reading current literature, attending lectures, seminars and refresher courses. To organise in-service training. To make recommendations to ensure that the hospital is at the leading edge of best practice in patient care.


  • To initiate, facilitate, and to take part in relevant nursing audit/research.


  • To maximise staff development in a learning environment through the identification of training needs, establishment of training programmes, and the planning of on-going education for post registration nurses and students. To ensure that all
