The position is responsible for providing a high standard of evidence based nursing care to individuals / patients of varying ages and cultural groups within the hospital / facility.
The Registered Nurse (RN) will plan, assess, implement and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with individuals /patients / their families and the multidisciplinary team so as to achieve identified goals and health outcomes. The RN will take a leadership role in the coordination of nursing care, work in partnership with Enrolled Nurses (EN’s) and Assistants in Nursing (AIN’s) providing supervision, direction and guidance.
The RN will provide education, support and guidance to individuals / patients for the management of their health recovery, rehabilitation or end of life needs.
The RN will work as part of the health care team, adhere to policies and procedures, contribute to the efficient, effective, and economic running of the unit /ward, participate in working parties or committees (as required) demonstrate a commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, Occupational Health and Safety, achievement of hospital / facility accreditation and deliver a high standard of Customer service at all times.
The RN will maintain a professional development portfolio with a commitment to ongoing learning and development

Required Experience:
· Registered with the Nurses Board relevant to the state of employment
· Current practicing certificate
Desirable Experience:
· Bachelor of Science (Nursing)
· · 12 months experience.

The role:
· Provide nursing care in accordance with legislation and common law governing nursing practice
· Work within own scope of practice

· Identify goals that are measurable, achievable and congruent with the values and believes of the individual /patient
· Proactively work towards discharge planning, ensuring appropriate referrals for support post discharge to external agencies are in place and meet the requirements of the individual / patient
· Undertake nursing procedures timely, efficiently and confidently.
· Respond effectively to emergency situations and the changing status of the individual / patient
· Delegate aspects of care to EN’s and AIN’s according to their skill level and competence
· Discharge individuals /patient timely
· Encourage the patient, relatives and significant others to participate in the continuing care of the patient.
· Act as an advocate to assist individuals to make informed decisions.
· Ensure patient confidentiality and privacy is maintained.
· Assist medical and allied health teams in monitoring patient outcomes .
· Promote teamwork.
· Act as a resource person for those staff less experienced.
· Maintain and promotes good interpersonal, public relations and customer service
· Attend and participates in ward meetings, working parties and committees.
· Take ownership and identifies solutions to address the needs of the individual / patient
· Use computer patient management system to update patient profile, clinical changes (i.e. meals ordered)
· Work efficiently, ensuring time management skills are effective in delivering nursing care timely
· Provide clear, informative and objective handover to oncoming nursing staff at completion of nursing shift
· Support the hospital / facility’s commitment to quality improvement and achievement of accreditation by
· Participating in department meetings, committees, audits
· Participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of the unit/ward quality plan
· Identifying areas of improvement, discussing with peers and seeking avenues to address.
· Take ownership of a quality project.
· Assist in the documenting and reviewing relevant policies, procedures and the unit/ward manual
· Discuss opportunities for service expansion with the Nurse Unit Manager
· Implement measures to maintain the safety of staff, visitors and self by
