Management Adviser, Ghana

Purpose and Context:

VSO are looking for a talented and experienced manager to work at in a not-for-profit organisation based in Ghana. This is a two year placement.

The Centre for Active Learning and Integrated Development (CALID) in Ghana is based in Tamale in the Northern region of Ghana, West Africa. The organsiation was formed five years ago to imporve the livelihoods of local communities, by supporting and encouraing local people to generate their own living.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist CALID to formulate and review its current strategic plan
  • Support CALID's management by implementing general administrative and financial management systems
  • Strengthen CALID's staff skills in proposal development, report writing and fundraising
  • Support the growth of CALID's financial base, so it can meet it's targets
  • Assist CALID to develop and write funding proposals to various donors e.g. the UN or EU

Experience Required:
  • Degree in management or business, or a community development degree and background
  • At least five years’ experience in managing a not-for-profit organisation, a community project, or public sector management experience
  • Experience of writing funding proposals and tracking budgets
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with limited resources
  • Flexibilty, patience and a sense of humour are important

Start Date: VSO business roles begin in Sept/Oct or Jan/Feb, depending on your availability.

This is a VSO volunteer job, but you will receive a comprehensive package of benefits including flights, insurance, accommodation, a local salary, training courses and grants. The majority of placements are for a two-year period but some one-year placements are available.
