Basketball Ireland is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of basketball in Ireland. The NGB was officially formed in 1947 and affiliated to FIBA (European Governing Body) in the same year.

Basketball Ireland has responsibility for the promotion, development, administration and co-ordination of all basketball activities throughout the thirty-two counties of Ireland.

The Basketball Ireland Vision can be summarised as follows:

- The number one indoor team sport in Ireland
- Over 250,000 children and adults having fun playing basketball in schools, clubs, colleges and local communities.
- A new focus on developing basketball at all levels
- Excellent network of domestic competitions
- High profile national competitions played to capacity crowds in quality arenas
- National teams becoming a stronger force at European level

The ongoing mission of Basketball Ireland is to increase the participation levels of basketball throughout Ireland, across all age groups - male and female.

It is the policy of Basketball Ireland to actively integrate people of all nationalities into and through the sport and to ensure that this policy is reflected at all levels of the organisation.

Basketball Ireland as the National Governing body has a responsibility to provide a core service to it’s members through professionally managed national competitions, training courses, and other programmes and services with the aim of improving the overall standards and participation levels throughout the sport in this country.

Basketball Ireland as a modern and fit-for-purpose NGB, is committed to implementing best practice at all levels of the organisation.
