COOK IRELAND is located in the National Technological Park in Limerick, adjacent to the UL campus. The plant was established in 1997 to design, manufacture and distribute minimally invasive medical devices to customers throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. COOK Ireland is a young, vibrant organization committed to ensuring that patients receive the best medical device products possible and committed to ensuring the continued success of the operation in Limerick. The products manufactured in Limerick are primarily for use by medical professionals in the fields of gastroenterology, urology, obstetrics and gynecology. The company is part of the privately owned Cook Group with headquarters in Indiana, U.S.A. Established in 1963, Cook Group has a long and distinguished record as a highly successful and innovative company in the field of minimally invasive surgery.

Over the past 10 years the investment in infrastructure & people has been continuous. An extension to the plant in 2003 increased the size to approx. 80,000 sq. ft., incorporating a new warehouse and distribution centre and a further extension will be completed in mid-2007 incorporated expanded manufacturing facilities, offices and a staff restaurant and gym. COOK Ireland’s selection as the European site for the Shared Service Centre, Marketing, Marketing Communications and increased investment in R&D/manufacturing highlights the strategic importance of the operation. In order to accelerate the product development process and ensure its close alignment with marketing requirements, specialised product development teams have been created to forge a close link between R&D and Marketing. They are now one of the key drivers of new product development within the COOK Group and supply finished product worldwide.

COOK Ireland currently employs 400 people in a variety of roles. Our employees contribute to all aspects of our business from the initial acceptance of the order, through production, order fulfillment, and dispatch. Our sales and marketing personnel work closely with our sales representatives and independent distributors throughout the world to ensure that we provide a professional, reliable and competitive service to our customers. Cook Ireland engineers work with leading doctors to continually improve our product range and to design new products for the future. In addition to the products we produce in Limerick, Cook Ireland also distributes products from sister companies in the US and Australia.

Over the decades, Cook products have improved the health of millions of patients worldwide. In many areas, we pioneered breakthrough medical techniques that help patients avoid traumatic surgery, reducing health care costs and producing better medical outcomes. On November 25th 2006 COOK Ireland was named as the Irish Exporters Association’s Exporter of the Year and Life Science Exporter of the Year for 2006. The prestigious accolades are a positive endorsement for its successful and rapidly growing European sales, marketing, customer service and distribution operation in Ireland. Ireland is home to manufacturing plants for 15 of the World’s top 25 medical device companies, which were responsible for €3.7 billion in exports over the last year.
