Foróige’s Purpose
The purpose of Foróige is to enable young people
to involve themselves consciously and actively in
their own development and in the development of society.

Foróige’s work
Foróige provides a comprehensive
range of youth work services through the operation
of Foróige Clubs, Local Youth Services, Local Youth
Development Projects and Youth Information Centres.
This multi-pronged approach enables the organisation
to
- Meet the developmental needs
of young people in general.
- In particular circumstances
to focus on vulnerable young people in relation
to issues arising from poverty, marginalisation
and social exclusion, under-achievement at school,
early school leaving, youth crime, substance abuse
and family difficulties.

Brief History
Founded in 1952, Foróige was formerly
named Macra na Tuaithe. Its name was changed to Foróige
in 1981. The name Foróige is derived from forbairt
na hóige, which means ‘development of youth’.
