Many corporate bosses want employees to return to the office rather than to\u00a0work from home, but a new US study suggests the benefits are more imagined than real.<\/p>\n
The study, Return-to-Office Mandates, looked at\u00a0S&P 500\u00a0companies that had implemented policies mandating workers to return to in-office working.<\/p>\n
Return-to-office (RTO) mandates were more common in companies with male chief executives and among poorly performing firms.<\/p>\n
Far from it boosting productivity, the researchers found no difference in companies\u2019 financial or stock market performance following the mandates. Furthermore, there were \u201csignificant declines\u201d in employees\u2019 job satisfaction ratings.<\/p>\n
Overall, the findings suggest managers use RTO mandates \u201cto reassert control over employees\u201d, say the researchers, \u201cand blame employees as a scapegoat for bad firm performance\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
