{"id":8658,"date":"2024-06-18T11:33:27","date_gmt":"2024-06-18T10:33:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.recruitireland.com\/advice-centre\/?p=8658"},"modified":"2024-06-18T11:33:27","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T10:33:27","slug":"half-of-irish-workers-would-refuse-job-offers-with-no-option-to-work-from-home-research-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.recruitireland.com\/advice-centre\/half-of-irish-workers-would-refuse-job-offers-with-no-option-to-work-from-home-research-finds\/","title":{"rendered":"Half of Irish workers would refuse job offers with no option to work from home, research finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph\">Irish workers are increasingly willing to turn down job offers that do not include the option to work remotely or in a hybrid arrangement, a new global survey has found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">Published by Stepstone Group, it found that almost half of the more than 1,700 Irish survey respondents said they would refuse a job offer if there were no remote working options compared with a global average of 29 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">The research, conducted in partnership with Boston Consulting Group and a global alliance of more than 70 recruitment sites, is the first instalment of the Decoding Global Talent study to be published since 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">It suggests that work-life balance is the top priority for jobseekers in the Republic, unchanged since the last survey. Financial compensation, meanwhile, has moved up six places within the list of priorities since the last survey, Stepstone said, highlighting the impact of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fusion-app\" class=\"layout-section\">\n<section id=\"main\" class=\"main\" tabindex=\"-1\" role=\"main\">\n<div class=\"container layout-section\">\n<div class=\"row advanced-grid\">\n<section class=\"col-sm-md-12 col-lg-xl-8 advanced-grid-desktop-main-area\">\n<div class=\"advanced-grid-2 layout-section\">\n<article class=\"default__ArticleBody-sc-1nhbny4-2 kWWtWa article-body-wrapper article-sub-wrapper\">\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">The study, based on a survey of more than 150,000 employees across 188 countries, also indicates a strong preference for remote and hybrid working arrangements among employees in the Republic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">\u201cWith nearly half of jobseekers willing to turn down opportunities that do not provide hybrid or fully remote working options, employers should ensure they\u2019re evolving their policies to address these needs and comply with new government guidelines on the right to request remote work,\u201d said Sam Dooley, country director of Stepstone Group Ireland.<\/p>\n<div id=\"arcad-feature-f0fA5zOjVt7q5My-3-4-3-1c09deb69e2cd1\" class=\"default__StyledAdUnit-sc-1moicrg-0 lhWBCq arcad-feature flex breakout\">\n<div class=\"arcad-container width_100\">\n<div id=\"arcad_f0fA5zOjVt7q5My-3-4-3-1c09deb69e2cd1\" class=\"arcad ad-550x250 flex flex_justify_center\" data-google-query-id=\"CKGB5db25IYDFbWkgwcdK5cIbw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/2695176\/The_Irish_Times\/business_1__container__\">\n<div id=\"bb-iawr-inarticle-irish_times_desktop_outstream_2022\" class=\"bb_iawr\">\n<div id=\"bb-wr-inarticle-irish_times_desktop_outstream_2022\" class=\"bb-media bb_wrapper bb-mode-commercial bb-phase-main bb-state-playing bb-muted\" data-sid=\"4zn7CJUTluw1\" data-currenttime=\"3\" data-isready=\"true\" data-duration=\"30.016\" data-volume=\"0.8\">\n<div class=\"bb-layer bb-skin-layer bb-mode-commercial bb-phase-main bb-state-playing bb-muted\">\n<div class=\"bb-skin-container svelte-zzb26v\">\n<div class=\"chrome svelte-1wtdajp\">\n<div class=\"bottom-container svelte-1wtdajp\">\n<div class=\"bar svelte-1wtdajp\">\n<div class=\"play-pause-button bar-button svelte-1wtdajp\">\n<div class=\"button-element svelte-3khoos no-toggle-transform no-hover-transform toggled\">\n<div class=\"button-content svelte-3khoos\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Pause\">\n<div class=\"toggled slot-content svelte-3khoos\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">A study published in 2023 by the University of Galway and the Western Development Commission indicated that 59 per cent of respondents were working in a hybrid arrangement last year while 38 per cent worked fully remotely. Only 3 per cent worked fully on-site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">The prevalence of hybrid working appears to be changing other habits and priorities within the labour force. Nearly a quarter of all first-time homebuyers borrowed against a property in a different county than the one they were living in last year, according to a Banking and Payments Federation of Ireland report from last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">Property hunters were increasingly willing to look further afield, aided by the geographic flexibility afforded to them by remote working.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">The Stepstone research also highlights how work preferences shift across different age groups in the Republic. \u201cWhile a good work-life balance is the most important job element for professionals aged 21 and above, interesting job content is the top component for workers under the age of 21,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1nhbny4-0 gVsmvl body-paragraph paywall\">Financial compensation is the second most important work preference for professionals aged 21-50.
