RUC needs army support

British soldiers will remain on the streets of Northern Ireland as long as it is necessary according to the RUC Chief Constable, Ronnie Flanagan.

Sir Ronnie Flanagan is concerned with the numbers who are leaving the RUC at the moment.

Mr. Flanagan has confirmed that an independent agency will be placing recruiting advertisements to help counter the losses the RUC are suffering.

He said that because of the decline in volume of RUC officers at his disposal he will continue to ask the army for support in street patrols.
