Champions League: Injury rules Bergkamp out of Munich trip

Dennis Bergkamp has confirmed that he will miss Arsenal's Champions League trip to Bayern Munich because of a hamstring injury.

It was first thought that Arsene Wenger had ruled Bergkamp out because he is not in favour of players making arduous car journeys to matches.

But the Dutch striker, whose fear of flying stops him from travelling with his team-mates, says injury is the problem this time.

He told icons.com: "I'm not going to be able to go to the Bayern Munich game but, as it turns out, it isn't because of any travel issues.

"It's just because I'm suffering with a tight hamstring problem.

"Although I'm disappointed about this - how could I not be - I'm no more disappointed than I'd be if I missed any other game.

"To me, all games are massive and it would be disrespectful to say this is more important than others."

Plenty of Arsenal fans will disagree with that sentiment, however, with Wenger's side needing to at least equal Lyon's result against Spartak Moscow in Russia to progress to the quarter-finals.
