One person dying almost every day on roads

Irish roads are claiming a new victim almost every day, according to the first garda figures of the new year.

A total of 34 people died since New Year's Eve, despite a slowdown in the number of fatalities.

During the month of January, 30 people were killed, with four dead so far this month. During the past week alone, eight have been killed.
