Department of Agriculture inspectors said there were no symptoms of foot and mouth disease at the two farms under inspection in Castleisland in Co Kerry.

The two farms will be kept under observation until the results of the tests carried out on the suspect animal presented at a factory in Nenagh are known.

Officials sealed off the farms following an alert about the animal and they carried out tests throughout the day.
