Ryanair moves base to Brussels

Ryanair has announced Brussels Airport as its new European base.

The carrier said it has selected Brussels because of high costs at Dublin and Shannon airports. Ryanair has also revealed six new routes will operate from Brussels to other European locations.

Company spokesman Michael O'Leary said it was a huge loss to Ireland.

"Straightaway, it is the loss of a million new visitors. There is the loss of 200 jobs and it also means that Irish people this year will pay more than £100m more to the high fare airline carriers than if we were offering six low fare routes to continental Europe." said O'Leary.
