Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was in Wales today to speak to the Welsh Assembly and promote ties between the two countries.

In his address, Mr Ahern said Irish politics has been permanently changed by the Good Friday agreement and the chance for peace would not be squandered now.

"The Agreement represents a fair and just political accommodation of the two main political traditions in Ireland and of their allegiances and aspirations. The Agreement contains within it the seeds for lasting peace. We have an historic opportunity for peace on the island of Ireland and we are determined not to squander it," he said.
