Fine Gael hit out at disease measures

Wednesday, February 28, 2001
Fine Gael has hit out at the Government over its attempts to prevent foot and mouth disease spreading over here.

The party said the measures have been shown up as inadequate, especially in light of a possible case of the disease in the North.

Agriculture spokesman Alan Dukes said the procedures are not being fully put into practice on the ground.

"The various instances that we have seen show that, although structures are supposed to be in place to carry out disinfections, there have been some worrying cases," said Mr Dukes.
