Portugese to disinfect everyone travelling from Britain

Thursday, March 01, 2001
Passengers arriving from Britain at any Portuguese airport or port will have to disinfect their shoes as a precaution against foot-and-mouth disease.

Food brought in by those passengers also will have to be surrendered on arrival, says an Agriculture Ministry spokesman in Lisbon.

The restrictions will remain in place until March 9 at least, when EU vets are to discuss the crisis produced by the outbreak of the disease in Britain.
