Supply of candidates has been adequate although generally lower than previous years due to the continued improvement in the permanent market.  This has resulted in candidates receiving multiple offers and improved and extended benefits.

Commentary on Accountancy & Finance Roles and Contract Rates in Ireland for 2017

Where staff shortages occur due to maternity and sick leave, contract roles provide continuity in cover.  In addition, as markets improve, organisations may require additional resources and contract options allow the fluidity and flexibility needed whilst companies make tentative expansion decisions. 

We’ve seen an increase in expats seeking to return home and they will consider contract positions while transitioning back to Ireland.  Their international experience is highly sought after and allows them options while making longer term career and locational decisions.

For companies seeking to differentiate themselves as an employer of choice, there has been a distinct shift in 2016 towards flexible working hours, working from home and reduced working week in order to attract working parents back into the workplace.

We anticipate that contract roles will continue to feature strongly as a hiring solution in 2017
