Commentary on Finance, Treasury & Capital Markets Roles and Remuneration in Ireland for 2017

Echoing the demand from last year, there is still a heavy requirement for accountants who have both accounts preparation experience as well project and system implementation experience across both the insurance and banking sector.  This in particular has been noted in the insurance sector due to the continuous improvement of Solvency II systems. The main challenge in this area of the market is lack of available job seekers who hold the necessary qualifications and have sufficient systems experience within the financial accounting fields.

Job offers for newly qualified accountants has never been more competitive. This in particular is seen among Big 4 practice candidates, where they are being offered extremely enticing packages and opportunities to ensure that they will remain with their firm after their training contracts end. As a result, this has put pressure on the market generally but specifically on financial services companies to offer top market salaries and in some cases newly qualified accountants are demanding a very strong starting salaries plus benefits.

As in previous years, financial services companies provide an abundance of training to all employees on a consistent basis. Candidates are now expecting this training as they are realising how competitive the market is, so they are availing of every opportunity to upskill and meet market demands.  Continuing on from this trend, most newly qualified accountants are looking at how they can grow their knowledge bank and seeking further education support. This has been identified by the amount of newly qualified accountants that are now registering for the CFA exams.
