We have seen an increased demand for fund accountants across all levels and in particular those with specialist skills in private equity or hedge / hybrid fund experience.

Commentary on Funds Administration Roles and Remuneration in Ireland for 2017

We have not seen a marked increase in international applicants. However the FS market in countries such as the UK, Australia, Canada and Dubai are buoyant at the moment and we are mindful of the geo political changes occurring that could impact international application rates in 2017. We feel that this will bring an improved appetite for people to travel especially in the fund administration industry to and from US, Luxembourg and further afield.

Overall we have seen that the vast majority of roles are permanent, organisations are recognising that candidates are becoming increasingly interested in companies that provide a good work / life balance. This has led to the introduction in 2016 of fixed term, part time or contract work in the fund accounting area. Organisations are requesting increased amounts of specialist expertise in asset classes and it is experience rather than the qualifications that will remain the focus for 2017. 

We are expecting to see a slight increase in salaries and with the potential influx of more specialist fund administrators entering the market, it is the specialist areas that will drive the salary levels. We are also already seeing a number of investment management companies entering the market and given that Ireland has not been a major center in this field to date, this could bring extra pressures on salaries for experienced candidates in particular the data governance, compliance, regulatory reporting and middle office.

Historically, financial services organisations have been predominantly male dominated at senior levels. However, with a focus on gender balance, many companies are seeking to address this imbalance and we are seeing an increased number of female hire, a trend we expect to continue into 2017.
