Salary Guide 2017: Office Support

During 2016 we have seen a move from fixed term contract roles to more permanent positions within office support.

The first half of the year saw a steady increase in permanent roles nationally with that momentum maintained in Dublin in H2 as companies become more confident in making hiring decisions compared to previous years. As a result of this increase in permanent opportunities, there has been a challenge in sourcing professionals who will commit to long-term temporary roles. There has been an a considerable increase in professionals on working holiday visas who are open to temporary office support roles, primarily from North America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Commentary on La Creme- Office Support in Ireland for 2017

2016 saw high demand for experienced executive assistants, office managers and sales administrators within professional services, FMCG, pharmaceutical and startups.  Similar to previous years, the office support sector has been female dominated with women accounting for over 90% of applications. With the demand for experienced professionals still on the rise, there has been a notable increase in counter offers, as companies strive to hold onto talent. Demand for customer service administrators within FMCG has continued in 2016, with companies striving to provide the highest level of customer service and increasing customer service teams on a temporary basis during peak times of the year.

Salaries for senior candidates remained stable during 2016, however, at the junior end of the market, salaries increased, as a result of more media coverage around the hourly living wage of €11.50. In addition to this, companies are more aware that in order to attract the right talent, they need to offer higher remuneration packages, especially to compete with large multinationals who are offering salaries above the market rate and strong benefits packages with sophisticated onsite facilities.  

Going into 2017, the market will continue to be highly competitive for both professionals seeking new opportunities and companies looking to attract and retain talent. Companies will continue to seek professionals that are multi skilled and adaptable with strong systems and similar industry experience. Our advice to job seekers is to continuously upskill. For companies, we would advise that swiftly moving through the recruitment process as it is a highly competitive market where professionals are receiving multiple job offers and top talent will not be on the market for long.
