Survey Guide 2017: Marketing

Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Recruitment throughout 2016 in marketing was most active in the Dublin market, with many new roles emerging across brand management, channel marketing, communications, advertising and in particular digital and online marketing.

The most sought-after professionals for the latter are typically individuals who have developed digital content in a business-to-business environment. Whilst there is an oversupply of general marketeers, specialists in digital marketing, particularly within e-commerce and customer experience, remain in short supply.

Commentary on Marketing Roles and Remuneration in Ireland for 2017

Dublin is seen as the hub of marketing opportunities in Ireland given the presence of many multinationals and tech companies, as well as the attraction to work for start-ups. Regionally, there is a lack of opportunities for marketeers, with most of these roles coming in the form of standalone marketing support or in small teams.

Since the start of 2016, we have noticed an increase in Irish candidates currently based in London, and in some cases North America, looking to relocate back to Ireland.

Blended skill sets, combining creativity and analytical competence, in particular the ability to use big data to segment markets effectively for campaign activity, are in high demand. Interest has also emerged for Customer experience (CX) managers with e-commerce experience as organisations put a real focus on analysing their online footprint and the customer journey.

Similarly to many other sectors, marketers are attracted to companies who offer flexible working options as well as a competitive salary package. Typical trends such as 4 day weeks, working from home or working across different locations to shorten a commute continue to be key drivers for marketeers to join an organisation.

Salaries will remain steady in 2017 within the marketing space - with slight increases of up to 5% -10% expected on base salary. This will mostly be within high demand areas such as digital and e-commerce talent.
