A multinational organization catering to the automotive sector has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to work within its R&D team in Galway and work as part of an Engineering team focused on the Electrification of the new product, with responsibility for the design, development, prototyping & testing of Electrical and Electronic Solutions at both System level and Component level.

The role:

  • Design and development of Electrical / Electronic solutions for the self-powered products and bringing these solutions from design concept through to prototype & production.
  • Be part of the wider NPD engineering team to deliver defined project goals in a timely manner.
  • Develop, implementation and coordination of component/module/system testing in conjunction with the R&D Test Engineering Team.
  • Identify industry trends and standards within the automotive industry specifically related to electric motors and generators, hybrid drive systems and electrical actuation systems.
  • Co-ordination of any required regulatory testing of Electrical / Electronic solutions at external agencies as required per regulatory standards.


  • Degree or Masters in an Electrical/Electronic, Electro-Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience in Mechanical, aerospace, industrial, agricultural machinery, automotive industry desired.
  • Experience in design and debug of embedded microprocessor control systems.
  • Previous experience in New Product Development (NPD) process, DFMEA, 6 Sigma.
  • Experience in Induction Motor and Permanent Magnet Generator technology an advantage.
  • Experience in Induction Motor and Permanent Magnet Generator technology an advantage.
  • Experience in high power switching devices such as Solid State Switches, Insulated Gate Bi-Polar Transistors (IGBT), Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor switches, an advantage.
