Long established South Dublin based road freight company now seek to hire an experienced Transport Manager with extensive experience within a busy domestic distribution environment dealing with multiple sub-contractorsand has identified this as a priority role.

The role is to effectively manage a cost-effective, nationwide collection and delivery function through the allocation of freight to various sub-contractors coach. You will direct and coordinate staff as well as sub-contractors to ensure that the transport function meets clients expectations whilst remaining cost effective and maximising profit. You will ensure that the operations complies with all company operational procedures, financial budgets and statutory requirements, including Health and Safety.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review collection and delivery orders to ensure that the most cost-effective allocations are achieved.
  • Achieve operational targets and service levels in line with budgetary constraints.
  • Facilitate an awareness and accomplish budgets and targets set within the company.
  • Ensure legislative compliance in all areas.
  • Ensure that the company operates within statutory requirements including the provision and maintenance of a safe working environment.
  • Continually evaluate operational practice in order to ensure optimum utilisation of resources.
  • Develop and analyse methods and systems to establish and improve service levels.
  • Select, train, motivate, appraise to develop and manage resources to achieve total customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and relationships with staff, sub-contractors and customers.
  • Identify, fulfil and review training and developments needs of all subordinates within the department, through the formal appraisal process and on an ongoing basis.
  • Effectively manage resources through assessment of workloads and delegation of tasks in order to meet deadlines and business objectives.
  • Cultivate the corporate objectives throughout the company to achieve teamwork and cooperation.
  • Ensure the optimal use of resources, both internal and external maximising the cost-effectiveness and maintaining service levels.
  • Ensure timely completion of all business administration.
  • Ensure problems and or difficulties which arise are dealt with promptly and in a professional and business-like manner.
Minimum Requirements:

  • Min 5 years experience within a busy distribution environment with a proven track record operating domestic line haul and multi-drop routes on a round-trip basis.
  • National CPC qualified
  • Excellent knowledge of carriers
  • Strong planning and organising skills with the ability to multi-task whilst working to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal & administrative skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of tachograph regulations
  • Be computer literate with a good level of I.T. skills.
