The Opportunity

The Engineering and Asset Management (E&AM) Team now have an exciting opportunity for an Offshore Engineering Manager.

This role will ensure both Phase 1 and Phase 2 offshore transmission projects are developed in accordance with EirGrid statutory obligations, relevant standards and policies. The function is responsible for managing engineering & design and ensuring interface management between the relevant technical disciplines.

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams ensuring the successful design, development and execution of the technical aspects of the project. infrastructure onshore.
  • Lead the technical development of the offshore and onshore aspects of the project from concept design to execution such as design, manufacturing, construction, installation and commissioning of offshore substations, submarine cables and associated electrical.
  • Define all required technical deliverables and manage the delivery thereof in accordance with project timelines, budget, technical and quality standards.
  • Lead and coordinate engagements with external consultants and contractors for technical assessments and design reviews.

This role can be based out of our Dublin or Cork offices.

The Team
The Engineering & Asset Management is responsible for undertaking four key roles; asset management, technical authority, onshore engineering and offshore engineering. The team is responsible for setting the technical engineering policies and standards to be used for transmission infrastructure, monitoring compliance during design and construction and for ensuring asset integrity and ensuring uninterrupted power system functionality.

The Engineering and Asset Management is one of the areas within EirGrid which facilitates that role through the development of technical standards and functional specifications for all plant to be connected to the transmission system and the development of new and innovative technologies and methodologies.

In addition, these areas are responsible for ensuring that EirGrid’s requirements are incorporated in project design and construction whether the works are carried out by ESB Networks or by third parties.

About you
Successful candidates will have:

  • Engineering degree with a minimum 15 years’ experience in the delivery of HV transmission assets offshore or similar industry such as Oil and Gas
  • Chartership or project management certificate desirable.
  • Proven leadership skills, leading multidisciplinary teams and managing several technical interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of offshore wind  and onshore transmission, design principles and industry guidelines, standards and regulations.
  • Experience with communicating and reporting to senior and exec level.
  • Offshore design expertise with experience assessing conformity to standards, preferably in HV, OSS or export cable design.
  • Experience working on EPC contracts such as Logic, FIDIC, NEC or equivalent.
  • Experience completing inspection and monitoring of construction progress for compliance to ensure transmission assets can be commissioned in accordance with standards.
  • Commercial awareness with strong vendor management skills.  Strong awareness of DEVEX, CAPEX, OPEX & LCOE and other topics associated to commercial topics.
  • Full drivers licence.
