Senior Engineering Inspector- Roads and Greenways

Background The roads and greenways capital programme and regional management department are responsible for the delivery of TII roads and active travel capital funded projects. This programme is delivered on a regional basis by a Regional Management team led by the respective Regional Manager. The teams are responsible for the management, promotion and delivery of the programme in their regions. This includes responsibility for the National Regional Offices (NROs) and delivery of the roads programme with the assistance of the Local Authorities. The department is responsible for the delivery of a number of Capital programmes, projects within these programmes are delivered in accordance with the TII Project Management Guidelines, Project Appraisal Guidelines and TII’s Standards and Guidance documents. This requires supporting the delivery of these projects through all aspects of scheme development from initial inception through to construction close out. The department co-ordinates and manages the delivery of capital schemes in each of the 5 regions including Major Projects, active travel, greenways, minor realignments, pavement and safety schemes. The positions will be part of the Regional Management team. The Senior Engineering Inspector will report to the Regional Manager and will have specific responsibility for the regional delivery of the Roads, Greenways and Active Travel Portfolio of projects. The person will support overall delivery in the Region and may be assigned other duties at the discretion of the Regional Manager. The portfolio management unit supports the Regional Management teams in the overall co-ordination of the greenways, active travel, pavement and safety programmes delivered by Roads Capital. The unit is responsible for internal co-ordination with the various units in TII. The unit supports overall delivery and is responsible for updating documentation, processes and procedures and supporting internal procurements as necessary for effective delivery of the road programmes.

Senior Engineer (Research & Standards)

Background to the role and TII’s Research and Standards Section In line with Section 19 of the Roads Act 1993, TII may specify standards in relation the design, construction, and maintenance of national roads. The Research and Standards Section works with TII technical experts and maintains and manages the update of TII standards and technical documents used by TII, National Roads Offices, Project Offices, local authorities, technical advisors, and contractors, see www.tiipublications.ie. It manages the development of standards and guidelines associated with structures, light rail and greenways to ensure that TII is in compliance with national and EU regulations, technology advances and international best practice. The Department also oversees and approves Departures from Standards for new-build and upgrade/retrofit schemes. Such Departures relate to non-compliance with the mandatory requirements for National Roads which are specified in our Standards available through the TII Publications system https://www.tiipublications.ie/ The Research and Standards Section oversees TII’s Research Programme and participates in research with Conference of European Road Directorates (CEDR) or other bodies to support innovation and best practice. The section works with TII technical experts in the identification and commissioning of research and its implementation where appropriate through TII standards and technical documents. The Section develops processes to foster innovation and to enable collaboration with supply chain partners and within TII.
