The Team   
The Chief Governance Office is a directorate within the Group with a mission of ensuring that the highest standards of excellence are maintained in the delivery of risk management, governance, legal, compliance and company secretarial activities and initiatives.

Job Purpose   
The role holder will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of EirGrid’s enterprise risk and resilience frameworks, ensuring robust identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of risks across the Group. They will be accountable for maintaining a consistent and integrated approach to risk management that supports strategic and operational decision-making.

Managing a team of skilled professionals, the role holder will work closely with senior stakeholders to embed a strong risk-aware culture and enhance organisational resilience. This includes driving continuous improvement, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting EirGrid’s ability to anticipate and respond to emerging threats and disruptions.

Key Responsibilities   

  • Lead an adept risk team, ensuring clarity of purpose, role definition, and delivery expectations while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.  
  • Serve as a technical advisor to leadership and management, offering forward-looking insights on systemic risk trends, emerging threats, & enterprise mitigation strategies. 
  • Shape the EirGrid risk strategy and appetite in partnership with the Head of GRC, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy, objectives and planning.  
  • Lead the strategic evolution and governance of the Group’s ERM framework, ensuring it remains agile, integrated, and responsive to a dynamic risk landscape.  
  • Champion enterprise-wide risk intelligence by embedding robust, consistent risk assessment methodologies and ensuring risk registers are well defined and leveraged. 
  • Deliver authoritative risk reporting to executive and board level governance bodies, translating multifaceted risk information into actionable strategic insights.  
  • Drive the integration of resilience principles into business and risk management practices to strengthen EirGrid’s ability to withstand and recover from disruptive events.  
  • Oversee the design, governance, and assurance of business continuity and crisis management structures, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory standards and industry leading practices.  
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to embed resilience and risk management into core business processes, infrastructure, and strategic initiatives.  
  • Champion a proactive risk culture through calculated communications, leadership and management engagement, and targeted capability-building initiatives. 


Knowledge, Skills, and Experience 

  • Over ten years of experience in risk management, including significant time in leadership or senior advisory roles.  
  • Qualified to degree level and/or professional qualification in a relevant discipline.  
  • Proven track record in designing, implementing and/or overseeing risk management and business resilience frameworks, programmes and processes.  
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Skilled in stakeholder management and influencing at all levels, including Executive and Leadership level, while maintaining strong credibility and relationships.  
  • Experience in regulated environments or the energy sector is advantageous but not essential.
