The Role
We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to architect, build, and scale our commercial platforms. This role will design and implement the technical infrastructure that enables sophisticated subscription models, seamless billing operations, and data-driven subscriber lifecycle management.
You will lead a team of engineers building systems that handle the acquisition and maintenance of hundreds of thousands of subscribers, with complex billing scenarios, and integrate with our Salesforce Marketing Cloud implementation to create personalized subscriber experiences that will drive retention and growth. This is a high-impact leadership role where your technical decisions directly influence business scalability and subscriber satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities;
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of engineers, driving roadmap delivery, system reliability, and code quality.
- Architect and evolve scalable subscription and billing systems, supporting multiple tiers, bundles, offers, and payment methods
- Design and implement real-time event infrastructure for lifecycle triggers and retention journeys
- Integrate with marketing and CRM platforms to enable personalization and engagement workflows
- Build analytics capabilities around LTV, churn prediction, ARPU, and acquisition performance
- Partner with product and business teams across the Irish Times Group to turn growth strategy into technical execution
Requirements & Experience for the role;
- 8-10 years software engineering experience
- Minimum of 3 -5 years previous experience leading teams
- Deep knowledge of subscription and billing systems
- Strong architecture skills (event-driven systems, microservices, AWS)
- Experience building APIs, webhook systems, and real-time event streams
- Familiarity with marketing automation (Salesforce Marketing Cloud a plus)
- Passion for metrics: churn, ARPU, CLTV, and funnel performance
- Excellent Communication skills and Relationship managment experience

- Payment integrations (Stripe, PayPal), analytics platforms (Amplitude, Permutive)
