Design Engineering Manager required for Electronics client based in Shannon, Co. Clare.

Lead and manage the Design Engineering team through the entire new product introduction (NPI) and development process, including concept development, design verification, design validation, and product release. Direct and support departmental responsibilities related to the design, development, building, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of both new and existing electronic sensor products. Ensure projects are delivered on time, meet quality and performance requirements, and align with customer and business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages multi-site design engineering team, providing mentoring, coaching, talent development, performance reviews, and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Provides engineering leadership and direction throughout the new product introduction (NPI) and development process
  • Facilitate development of list of meaningful CI projects and execution of Continuous Improvement (CI) projects.
  • Run kaizen events and rapid problem-solving exercises and other learning events.
  • Drive factory yield improvements through establishing systems/tools that enable effective data capture, process enhancements, design changes and early design input during new product development.
  • Execute and manage capital and noncapital projects (such as cost reduction, transitions, etc.).
  • Drive improvement of unit cost management including cost savings, quality measures, product cost, productivity, escapes and first pass yields.
  • Drives deployment of Built in Quality, the reduction in quality escapes, and Cost of Quality for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Support the Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures.
  • Identify product application opportunities from which the product line is to evolve.
  • Interpret Rochester’s obligations in matters of compliance with customers’ performance specifications and regulatory agency and other industry standards.
  • Maintains documentation in accordance with quality assurance standards.
  • Prepare specifications, test plans, control plans, and technical data sheets for internal and external use.
  • Creates schematics, generates Gerber files as required for new PCB applications including drill plans, silkscreens, and bill of materials.
  • Compiles parts lists, orders components, assembles and tests prototype PCB assemblies.
  • Performs analysis, simulations, and testing of electronic systems and prepares corrective actions as needed.
  • Supports design of new electronic and sensor products or modifications of existing electronic and sensor products to meet the needs of customers.
  • Provides technical specifications and drawings for procuring PCB assemblies for new products.
  • Prepares appropriate APQP documentation.
  • Interfaces with customers and participates in system and field testing of electronic products.
  • Redesigns and upgrades PCB designs as components become obsolete or outdated.
  • Serves on related committees and participates in meetings as required.
  • Actively supports the defined goals and objectives of the company.
  • Projects a professional, total-quality image in all aspects of this position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as judgment or necessity dictates.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of related experience, or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • Strong knowledge of interfacing signals communicating sensor output to PLC platforms and programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text), preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Bluetooth, RF, Radar sensor communication designs a plus
  • Knowledge of CAD tools required.
  • Experienced with standard manufacturing software / equipment programming. (LabView, PLC, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Six-Sigma / Design of experiments a plus
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting electrical systems, soldering, and PLC programs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • PCBA firmware and software programming desirable training
  • Good oral and written business communication skills. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
