A Senior Manufacturing Engineer is required by CareerWise Recruitment for our Galway based client. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and processes, supporting production goals through technical expertise, compliance, and continuous improvement. Main responsibilities include Technical Support, People Management, New Technology and Equipment & Health & Safety.

THE ROLE:

Health & Safety

  • Create and foster an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) culture within the organisation.
  • Report any EHS incidents and/or near misses.
  • Take accountability for EHS safety observations, incidents and near misses assigned to Engineering department.
  • Support any new EHS initiatives within the organisation.
  • Identify and Lead EHS improvement activities that reduce risk or environmental impact.
  • Perform regular safety audits and inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure delivery of H&S toolbox talks to technical team.
  • Support the implementation of 6S standards across the manufacturing zones of the Galway site.

Technical Support

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the Engineering team.
  • Monitor and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to maximize machine availability and performance.
  • Monitor and reduce downtime in conjunction with technicians and engineers as part of the machine downtime escalation process.
  • Monitor and analyse material usage and variances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Lead, guide and approve root cause investigations for manufacturing in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Lead, guide and approve CAPA and NC investigations, ensuring timely closure and root cause analysis.
  • Improve Right-First-Time metrics by reducing defects and re-inspections related to manufacturing errors or missed inspections.
  • Analyse and improve existing AQL sampling plans and measurement requirements to ensure alignment with customer requirements in conjunction with the Quality Department.
  • Drive a high standard on GMP compliance within the engineering team.
  • Take accountability for training metrics adherence for the engineering team.
  • Provide technical support for communications with customers on manufacturing related matters.
  • Develop engineering team members to ensure sharing and improvement of technical knowledge is fostered within the team.
  • Collaborate with engineering team to implement solutions that enhance equipment reliability.
  • Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Ensure accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs are kept on the CMMS.
  • Ensure a spare parts inventory is maintained to ensure critical components are available when needed.
  • Maintain a spares management system to track usage and reorder parts efficiently.
  • Analyse maintenance costs and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation for equipment and systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Lead tooling and equipment upgrades, including validation and documentation.
  • Support NPI (New Product Introduction) with particular focus on specification reviews.
  • Identifying schedule risks that may result in delayed delivery and/or downtime.
  • Carry out the above tasks whilst conforming to good manufacturing practice (GMP)– keeping the work environment clean, safe and orderly.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to support team objectives, operational requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

New Technology and Equipment

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machine reliability and efficiency
  • Support the scoping, installation, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
  • Drive innovation by identifying and implementing new technologies and processes.
  • Identify and evaluate automation opportunities to streamline production processes and reduce manual intervention.
  • Stay updated on the latest automation technologies and industry trends to recommend and implement improvements.

People Management

  • Manage day-to-day activities of assigned direct reports.
  • Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and development planning.
  • Coordinate shift coverage, holiday planning, and workload balancing.
  • Support onboarding and training plans for new hires.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and GMP compliance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Typically, 3+ years in a similar Role
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Strong Technical Engineering knowledge and problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skills are essential and must be a team player
  • Ability to lead engineering team and provide engineering guidance to operations team
  • Ability to work on their own initiative
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and self-motivated
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work across functions as part of a manufacturing support team.
