Financial Accountant
EirGrid plc is a leading Irish energy business, dedicated to the provision of transmission and market services for the benefit of electricity consumers. EirGrid is the independent electricity Transmission System Operator (TSO) in Ireland and in Northern Ireland (through its wholly owned subsidiary, SONI). EirGrid is also the Market Operator (MO) for the wholesale trading system in Ireland. The Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) is part of the EirGrid Group, and operates the Single Electricity Market on the island of Ireland. EirGrid also owns and operates the East-West Interconnector (EWIC), a high-voltage HVDC electricity link between Ireland and Great Britain.

The Team

The Finance Department is responsible for the provision of timely and insightful financial information to the Board and to Management. It also has responsibility for the ongoing development of the company’s internal control procedures and financial information system to fulfil regulatory and statutory requirements. The role holder is responsible for the management of and regular reporting on the EirGrid Interconnector DAC and other EirGrid Finance functions.

The Opportunity
This role operates within a fast paced, busy environment. The role holder ensures timely and accurate financial information is produced in order for the EirGrid Group to meet established goals and objectives while ensuring statutory requirements are adhered to. The role holder will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly financial accounts, annual Regulatory accounts, annual budgeting and on-going forecasting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing EirGrid Interconnector DAC and other subsidiaries month end and year end accounts for review; 
  • Preparing KPI reports and investigating variances with other internal departments; 
  • Maintain general ledger and journal postings; 
  • Participate in the annual internal and external audit processes; 
  • Carrying out key controls and reconciliations to adhere to regulatory requirements; 
  • Maintain good collaborative working relationships with colleagues across the Group; 
  • Support the annual budgeting process, and assist departments manage their submission; 
  • Preparing annual EWIC and other Regulatory accounts pack for review; 
  • Drive efficiencies through process improvements; 
  • Responsible for EWIC and other Fixed Asset reporting, including deprecation calculation; 
  • Responsible for posting journals for EirGrid TSO business partner accountants 
  • Responsible for uploading EirGrid TSO annual budgets 
  • Responsible for asset capitalisation and depreciation processing in EirGrid TSO 
  • ERP system testing and enhancements 
  • Other ad-hoc duties, as they arise. 


About You

  • Experienced qualified accountant, with a minimum of 3 years previous experience within a fast paced finance department; 
  • Demonstrated experience of working as part of a team; 
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and to strict deadlines; 
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and the ability to operate on own initiative; 
  • Working knowledge of IFRS reporting requirements; 
  • Excellent MS Office skills; 
  • Strong analytical skills; 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organise and work with large volumes of data; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; 
  • Working knowledge of Dynamics D365 or similar financial packages.
