Background
The TII Architecture department provides a comprehensive conceptual and technical design service for all public transport projects within TII. This includes the design, at all project stages, of buildings, public realm, street furniture, and landscape. It also provides advice and support to other departments within TII, including roads and greenways, on architectural, public realm, and landscape built and natural environment, planning, design and compliance matters. The Architecture department also develops design and procurement briefs for external consultants, and provides guidance, document review and general support where design services are procured externally. The Architecture department is committed to the highest quality design and principles of sustainability in all of its work.
Due to increasing workload and responsibilities in relation to landscape design and specification, TII is now recruiting a Senior Landscape and VIA Architect, who will report to the Chief Architect, in order to assist with the delivery of TII’s Strategic Objectives.
Role and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the role are:
· Provide a comprehensive landscape design service to the Architecture department for all design stages including production of sketches, drawings, and specifications, in relation to TII Luas, MetroLink, cycling, and other infrastructural projects.
· Lead and co-ordinate with other TII design disciplines, and direct and oversee project team resources as required.
· Within the Architecture department, develop project briefs for external landscape, arboricultural, and environmental consultants, review tender submissions, and technical submissions by external consultants, and provide guidance and direction to consultants for statutory consents, detail design development and implementation, and other design and technical work as required.
· Management of external landscape consultants and arboriculturalists.
· Provide landscape design advice to all relevant TII departments in accordance with DMURS, TII sustainability guidance, and other relevant design guides in relation to the design of urban integration and safety of TII public transport and road schemes in both transition zones and urban areas.
· Act as Landscape/VIA subject matter expert to the head of section, project directors and project managers to oversee the delivery of design by third parties including engineering designers, design and build contractors, and consultants
· Development and management of Landscape standards for public transport and other infrastructural projects.
· Lead Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) and Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) (including input to EIA process for major infrastructure projects or projects requiring such input).
· Site visits for the purposes of surveying, assessment, inspection, reporting and supervision. Assessment and evaluation of landscape works on site.
· Detailing of extents of works and production and checking of bills of quantities and assistance with the inspection of on-site works.
· Provide ecological landscape advice in the review of project environmental audits to ensure that all transport infrastructure projects deliver the landscaping/ecological commitments identified during the planning stages
· Provide input into the development of policies related to new innovative landscape designs.
· Assist in the management of research projects as re quired.
· Undertaking such tasks, activities or other duties as may be required or assigned as appropriate to the grade
All of the divisions within TII have inter-dependent responsibilities and close cooperation and teamwork is required across the organisation.
Education & Experience
· Degree or third level professional qualification (minimum HETAC Level 8 or equivalent) in Landscape Architecture
· Be registered with the Irish Landscape Institute, or be professionally registered at an equivalent level with an equivalent organisation, or be in a position to attain registration within a period of 2 years from commencement of employment.
· Extensive experience at a senior level in the design, specification and implementation of landscape and public realm works in major public transport and roads infrastructure projects
· Demonstrable experience of project governance and contract management, including dispute resolution
· Strong technical, contract and stakeholder management capabilities.
· Experience of managing, co-ordinating and motivating multi-disciplinary teams (internal and external), including performance management and development support where applicable
· A high standard of technical training and expertise
· Excellent analytical, communication and influencing skills
· A strong commitment to public safety, to staff safety, and to the safety of those working on our behalf
· Hold and maintain a full driving licence
