Mechanical Design Engineer – Galway

An established design, manufacturing and installation company is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team in Galway. The business specializes in secure steel products for the construction industry, including steel doors, windows, fire‑rated screens and bespoke fabricated steel solutions used on major new‑build projects and secure facilities across Ireland and Europe.

The opportunity

You will join a collaborative engineering production team, taking ownership of projects from technical discussion with the client through design, manufacture and installation. This is an excellent role for someone who enjoys a mix of office design work, factory interaction and occasional site visits.

What you’ll be doing

• Reviewing and discussing architectural drawings with clients, agreeing technical details and specifications.
• Preparing detailed 2D/3D design and approval drawings using 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) and issuing them for manufacture.
• Bringing designs through the full lifecycle – coordinating with production during fabrication and supporting installation on site.
• Project managing your own jobs and providing regular progress updates to senior management.
• Attending site surveys and liaising with site installation teams to ensure products are installed in line with design requirements.

What we’re looking for

• 3–5 years’ experience in a Mechanical Design / Design Engineering role, ideally in steel fabrication, construction or related sectors.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or a similar 3D CAD package.
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication and construction details, with excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy.
• A self‑starter who can work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
