Transport Planner
Location: Mid-West Region, Ireland
Reporting To: Transport Manager

About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy and growing logistics operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning daily transport activities, ensuring customer requirements are met while maximising operational efficiency, service levels, and profitability.
This is a fast-paced position that requires excellent organisational skills, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders across a complex transport network.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain cost-effective daily transport plans using Transport Management Systems (TMS).
Schedule customer collections and deliveries in line with service level requirements.
Ensure all routes comply with driver hours regulations, Working Time Directive requirements, and customer delivery schedules.
Maximise fleet utilisation while minimising empty running and unnecessary costs.
Balance workloads across available drivers and vehicles to optimise operational performance.
Coordinate with customers, depots, subcontractors, drivers, and internal teams to ensure smooth service delivery.
Manage route adjustments and replanning activities as operational requirements change.
Identify opportunities to improve transport planning processes, systems, and efficiencies.
Support workforce and driver resource planning in line with forecasted volumes.
Participate in daily and weekly operational review meetings to identify risks, mitigation plans, and improvement opportunities.
Provide day-to-day operational support and guidance to drivers and transport personnel.
Ensure accurate completion of transport records, proof of delivery documentation, and job costings.
Deliver a high standard of customer service through proactive communication and effective planning.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience in transport planning, logistics, or supply chain operations.
Strong knowledge of Transport Management Systems (TMS) and route optimisation.
Working knowledge of transport legislation, driver hours, and compliance requirements.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Good commercial awareness and an understanding of transport cost drivers.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience producing operational reports and analysing performance data.
A proactive approach to continuous improvement.
