We are the people behind Ireland’s electricity grid. We operate the power system with world leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation, ensuring that everyone has power when they need it. But that’s not all, we are now transforming the power system for future generations.

And that’s just the beginning of our story.  We have a critical purpose. That purpose is to transform the power system to enable our society to reduce our carbon emissions and meet our climate change and net zero ambitions.

Be part of the transformation!

The Opportunity

We are seeking Programme Managers to join our growing Strategic Programme Delivery team. You will join a team who act as the primary interface for business engagement in the delivery of strategic IT and systems portfolios. You will work closely with Business Change teams and stakeholders across Grid Operations, Control Centre, Corporate Services, and Enterprise Platforms to deliver large programmes of work.   As the Programme Manager will ensure strategic alignment, stakeholder engagement, and delivery excellence across a diverse and evolving portfolio. You should be able to move seamlessly between traditional waterfall methods and agile delivery approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior business leaders to deliver strategic transformation portfolios aligned with corporate, operational, and energy transition goals.
  • Promote a user-centered design and systems-thinking approach across programmes and services, ensuring alignment with stakeholder needs, compliance requirements, and organisational strategy.
  • Oversee the delivery of a portfolio of complex programmes and projects, including control centre tools, market systems, energy management systems, corporate platforms (HR, Finance, Audit), and enterprise data solutions.
  • Lead the development of portfolio-level strategies, timelines, and deliverables to achieve business outcomes, with a focus on innovation, resilience, and digital maturity.
  • Define and maintain integrated portfolio plans, monitor progress against performance criteria, and ensure optimal allocation of resources across programmes.
  • Collaborate with executive sponsors to communicate portfolio goals, strategic outcomes, and business benefits, ensuring alignment with national infrastructure priorities and internal transformation objectives.
  • Present portfolio roadmaps, risks, interdependencies, and recommendations to executive and board-level stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to programme and project managers, fostering a high-performance culture and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and oversee governance structures for the portfolio in accordance with EirGrid policies, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.
  • Manage portfolio budgets, ensuring financial control and value delivery across programmes.
  • Balance resource availability and capability across multiple programmes, ensuring delivery excellence and strategic alignment.
  • Act as a strategic advisor, building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government, regulators, and industry partners.
  • Monitor and coordinate cross-programme dependencies, resolving conflicts and ensuring integrated delivery.
  • Lead the delivery of systems supporting both operational and corporate transformation, including enterprise-grade platforms and mission-critical grid technologies.

About You

  • Certified Portfolio or Programme Manager with 10+ years of experience in leading large-scale transformation portfolios.
  • Proven experience in delivering complex systems and infrastructure programmes across operational and corporate domains.
  • Strong knowledge of grid operations, control centre technologies, enterprise platforms (e.g., ERP, HRIS, audit tools), and data systems.
  • Experience in delivering enterprise systems in compliance with regulatory and governance frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of project and portfolio management methodologies (e.g. MSP, PMI, PRINCE2, MoP).
  • Exceptional leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive and board levels.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of aligning delivery with long-term business and policy objectives.
