The Network Management Division is responsible for the management of the national road network, comprising approximately 5,300km of Ireland’s principal roads, including approximately 1,300km of motorways and dual carriageways and 3 Tunnels. The Network Operations section of Network Management comprises three regions and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of national roads within each region. Each region comprises a MMaRC contract managed by a motorway contractor / operator along with a number of motorway PPP concessions. In general, non-motorway sections on the national road network within each region are managed by the local authorities, overseen by TII

Stewardship of national road assets is a core function of the Network Management Division, undertaken in line with TII’s Policy, Strategy and Framework and implemented in accordance with TII’s Strategic Asset Management Plans (SAMP). he Light Railway Capital Programme business unit is responsible for delivering a portfolio of nationally significant light railway projects that support sustainable economic growth in Ireland and enable the National Strategic Outcomes and priorities of the National Development Plan. The light railway projects currently under the remit of the Light Railway Capital Programmes business unit include Luas Finglas, Luas Lucan, and Luas Poolbeg all of which are supported by the Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy 2022-2042. TII is also progressing the route selection of a light railway scheme in Cork, in line with the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy. The Light Railway Capital Programme business unit also supports the management of the Luas network, including supporting Life Cycle Asset Renewals programmes and Network Enhancements programmes, in collaboration with the Luas Networks business unit in TII’s Commercial Operations division.

The Network Management Division is responsible for the management of the national road network, comprising approximately 5,300km of Ireland’s principal roads, including approximately 1,300km of motorways and dual carriageways. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) form an important part of the remit of the Network Operations section of Network Management. TII has a significant number of ITS devices across the national road network (over 3,500 units in all), including ~200 Variable Message Signs (VMS), ~160 Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV), 350 Traffic Monitoring Units (TMU) as well as a Journey Time Measurement System (JTMS), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Cameras, Cooperative ITS Roadside units, Periodic Speed Limit (PSL) Signs, School Warning Signs, etc. This ITS equipment enables TII to monitor, control and disseminate traffic-related information to the travelling public.
