Job Description – Senior Scientist

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

A qualified and motivated Senior Scientist will join a dynamic research and development team focused on the development of innovative assays. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and executing advanced experimental studies, as well as identifying and resolving technical challenges.

The role involves working both independently and collaboratively, including leading projects where required and coordinating with cross-functional teams to support product development and continuous improvement.

The candidate will analyse data from multiple experiments, draw conclusions, and define subsequent experimental strategies. Strong expertise in molecular biology and protein chemistry techniques, particularly in protein expression and assay development, is required.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a proven track record of both independent and collaborative research.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Apply advanced scientific expertise to support product development activities, including the design, planning, and coordination of both independent and collaborative studies. Optimise assay conditions, enhance product design, and troubleshoot technical challenges.

· Ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the organisation’s quality management system by adhering to documented procedures and supporting laboratory operations, including routine maintenance and safety practices.

· Prioritise studies and project activities in alignment with overall objectives, ensuring timely delivery. Demonstrate a strong understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of assay design and development processes.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of scientific advancements, industry trends, and emerging technologies. Develop and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support knowledge sharing and achievement of objectives.

· Make informed technical decisions regarding project and programme priorities while effectively gaining alignment and support from key stakeholders.

· Provide technical leadership and direction across multiple sites within the organisation, particularly in specialised diagnostic technologies.

· Offer mentorship and guidance to team members, including supporting study design and delivering training or coaching to less experienced staff.

· Develop and maintain development standards, training materials, and operating procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with the quality system.

· Build and manage relationships with academic institutions, testing laboratories, suppliers, and external partners as required.

· Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Quality, Manufacturing, and Regulatory Affairs to support audit readiness, certification activities, and responses to audit findings.

EDUCATION & COMPETENCIES:

    • 10+ years of invitro diagnostics / assay development and biologics essential with a strong Molecular and Biochemical background.
    • Skill in optimizing assay design and conditions, including DOE optimization where appropriate.
    • Advanced skills in statistical analysis.
    • Expertise in design and optimization of serological diagnostic tests.
    • Willing to take on new and challenging assignments and to implement new ideas or alternative solutions.
    • Capable of adjusting to dynamic working environment and changing priorities, and of ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
