Overall Purpose of Role:
The Data Centre Operations Manager will ensure best practice delivery of day-to-day operational datacenter services across multiple geographic data centre locations. The position is in a very rapidly growing and diverse environment, with a wide range of different systems and software.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
• Hands on role leading on the design, implementation and management of all datacenters initiatives in the company
• Work with remote datacenter staff on installation of new hardware and replacement of faulty hardware
• Participate in asset requisition, acquisition, receipt, and management
• Drive datacenter best practice and industry standards into working processes and procedures, linked to ITIL disciples such as incident,
change and problem management
• Manage 3rd parties / vendors for provision of contracted services on day-to-day basis as well as coordinating preventative maintenance
schedules and troubleshooting environmental equipment issues.
• Capacity management for space (rack and floor space), power and cooling
• Creation and maintenance of auditable documents that demonstrate the effective implementation and adherence to datacenter best practice
and industry standards
• Monthly management reporting including datacenter capacity / utilization, issues & risks, achievements and planned activities
• Documenting rack, power and cabling infrastructure
Skills/Experience Required:
• BSc degree in Computer Science/Engineering required
• 8 years of experience with comprehensive knowledge of computer hardware (Knowledge of HP hardware & Networking kit essential, Linux
preferable)
• 5 years+ experience in managing geographically diverse Data Centers.
• Excellent knowledge of mechanical and electrical infrastructure / technologies that support datacenters (UPS, Generator, switchgear, PDUs,
air-conditioning)
• Excellent knowledge of tools / systems used to manage datacenters (security, building management, rack management, capacity
management)
• Excellent knowledge of datacenter best practice and industry standards
• Excellent knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity planning
• Able to design, implement and document Datacenter solutions
• Must be detail orientated and strive for perfection
• Must be able to travel from time to time
• Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels
