Food Buying Manager

Company Description: Our client is a market leading multiple retailer. The company is renowned for driving its business and developing a mass consumer offer coupled with unique own brand product development. This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic buying office environment
Key responsibilities: As buying manager, you will be responsible for driving sales and margin in your category. You will define the range; negotiate the terms and source new product while all the while looking at the big picture in terms of your brand position and strategic plan
Range strategy. Reviewing product range on a regular and ongoing basis based on best practice category management principles and informed by market and consumer research, marketing and sales department input and supplier innovations
Sourcing: Manage the sourcing and introduction of Own label product in conjunction with the product development teams to enhance margins and provide consumers with competitive VFM offers.
Negotiation: Monitoring the performance of all products in terms of volume, margin contribution and market share and taking appropriate steps as necessary to achieve operational targets.
Relationship Building : Develop excellent long term supplier and customer relations to ensure supplier support for all aspects of the business and manage customer expectations.
Price: Assess current pricing and margin performance while reviewing competitor price positioning and maximising margin and competitive position within the market
Promotion plan: Develop appropriate promotional strategies to drive sales and profitability
Supply chain: Maintain an acceptable source of product supply
Cost of goods : Ensure that we are leveraging our group buying power effectively
Negotiation: Involvement in and Conclusion of annual terms negotiations with key suppliers
Solicit customer feedback
Coach, mentor and motivate the appropriate business unit staff.
Knowledge and Skills
You will have previous experience in a buying office environment working as a buyer. You will be a keen negotiator with a passion for food retailing or wholesaling, a people person with a commercial edge and a desire to drive your own business category forward. Ambitious, not only for yourself but for your company
