The permanent position of R&D Associate Principal Engineer with the PepsiCo Ireland Research & Development Group based at Little Island, Co. Cork reporting into the R&D Principal Engineer.� This role is focused on understanding & addressing the process innovation, optimization & development requirements of PepsiCo, primarily those of the PWF manufacturing system, based on delivery of the business' objectives through enabling of capacity or product innovation based expansion, efficiency, flexibility and sustainability improvements.

The key accountabilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide leadership in the support, optimization and innovation of process technology.
  • Identify, assess and deliver technical solutions which address key business needs including product innovation, quality, process efficiency &flexibility.
  • Leadership of, participation in & management of cross-functional project teams containing personnel from manufacturing operations, global support centre and R&D.
  • Communication with and co-ordination & management of input by external personnel including contractors, equipment/ ingredient suppliers, technology experts from within industry & academia etc.
  • Planning of multiple projects within technical work stream's and the management of these through the R&D stage gate process.
  • Prioritization of projects, management of available resources and evaluation of progress and benefits.
  • Conducting & co-coordinating all stages of testing & evaluation from pre-feasibility evaluation & pilot scale testing through to commercialization & roll-out of new technologies to manufacturing operations.
  • Development and communication of output reports including assessment of technology's capabilities & applicability to existing operations, cost-benefit analysis etc.
  • Stewardship & delivery of key technical documents including technical guides, transfer documents, operating instructions, process specifications etc. to PWF.
  • Co-ordination of the R&D Technical Centre including management of personnel, general planning/ preparation, modification of equipment & other facilities as required and liaison with the R&D team for their input & contribution to the upkeep & utilization of the Centre.
  • Liaison with R&D & PWF personnel globally to identify business needs & technical opportunities, leverage expertise from across organization and effectively communicate output to potential end-users.
  • Provision of ad-hoc technical leadership & subject matter expertise to PWF & R&D colleagues globally as required.

    The successful candidate will have:
  • 3rd level Engineering Degree in a relevant discipline (Chemical, Process or equivalent)
  • 8-10 years experience in a technology development or food/beverage manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt qualification would be an advantageous but not critical Requirement.
  • Good understanding of process unit operations and methodologies used in Food and Beverage manufacturing with insight to other industries also.
  • Proven capability in project delivery and technical innovation, design and trouble-shooting.
  • Interest in & enthusiasm regarding scientific development of process technology & the application of this to drive process change & improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks /projects.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, self motivated.
  • Some periods of significant travel and flexibility in working hours/location will be required.
