Main Duties/responsibilities

Overall management of the production, process and quality function of the business, incorporating;
  • Implement, supervise and promote best practice Health & Safety standards and practices throughout the production team.
  • Monitor and report on high level objectives and targets for the production team.
  • Provide clearguidance and direction on the efficient running of the plant including maintenance.
  • Ensure efficient usage of raw and process material.
  • Operate the plant to maintain full compliance with EPA licence and all other environmental regulatory standards.
  • Schedule production to achieve objectives and targets for production, quality, and overall plant balance with due regard to the complex interaction of plant sections.
  • Deliver high levels of plant performance - both quality and quantity, to specific targets.
  • Optimise plant efficiency in the use of Gas, Coke, Electricity and water.
  • Manage and supervise day and shift production team to ensure optimal performance.
  • Effectively engage with and manage relationships in a unionized environment.
  • Ensure the production team is competently trained and identify training needs or areas for people development.
  • Preparation and presentation of annual production budget.
  • Control of agreed expenditure, in accordance with approved annual budget and Capex.
  • Planning, and management of repairs, both planned and unplanned, as they impact upon the production function.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reports of plant performance.
  • Investigate and report on plant problems or improvements as required.
  • Compilation, analysis and reporting of periodic KPI and continuous improvements.
  • Cost improvement initiatives in conjunction with management team.
  • Deputising for Operations Manager.
  • On-call after hours.


The position requires flexibility and availability as demanded by the needs of a continuous plant and process - thus after-hours and weekend interaction with the plant will be a routine aspect of the work.

Reporting to the Operations Manager the successful candidate will be a part of the senior management team.

The successful candidate must have:
  • Honours degree In Chemical Engineering
  • 5 year's relevant experience in a Continuous Manufacturing Environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft office, Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint
