Oracle DBA required for 11 month contract in Dublin City centre.
This will be either daily rate or FTC.
Outline:
Manage the pre-production environment, in cooperation with UNIX administrators and other teams. This uses Oracle databases and application servers running on Sun Solaris and Red-Hat Linux platforms.
Contribute to the technology strategy for the production application environment.
Duties:
Management of pre-production application environments.
Capacity Management of pre-production application environments.
1st line support for the pre-production application environments.
Release changes to the pre-production application environments upon request from in-house development and test teams.
Ensure all release/change packaging and documentation meets quality standards.
Develop and document packaging and coding standards and best practises in cooperation with in house development teams.
Ensure the pre-production environment configuration matches production.
Refresh database and application code in pre-production environment as per requirements from test and project teams.
Carry out tuning & improvements to pre-production core banking application environments for subsequent implementation to production.
Understand the performance and resilience characteristics of the key hardware/software components of the core banking application environment.
Have an excellent understanding of application architecture.
Be able to reproduce and simplify problems for resolution by the database/application vendor, and work with them to develop workarounds for problems.
Understand the implications of undertaking “unsafe” operations. Understand the impact of those actions, and minimise their risk.
Engage and build-up working relationship with other ITI teams.
Adapt and adhere to ITI procedures (e.g. change management, etc).
Provide technical consultancy and support to production support teams in RI ITI regarding core banking infrastructure including Database and Application Server.
Provide technical consultancy and support to other IT teams regarding core banking infrastructure including Database and Application Server.
Liaison with other parties including: Application Development Team, Applications Support Team, Test team, Application Vendors, Projects, Business areas and Security.
Assist with application design, development and testing.
Assist with performance tuning of databases and application software.
Analyse and advise at an application level, regarding application changes pre and post implementation.
Assist development teams with logical design of application schema's.
Experience:
7 years Oracle DBA experience including development and production DBA roles.
Minimum 5 years experience of Oracle databases 9i & 10g.
Minimum 2 years experience Oracle application servers 9i and 10g
2 years Oracle RAC experience.
UNIX administration skills or excellent understanding of midrange server architectures.
Excellent backup and recovery skills.
Excellent troubleshooting skills.
Excellent tuning skills including tuning of medium to large OLTP and reporting environments.
Excellent SQL skills.
A good understanding of application architectures.
A good understanding of testing procedures.
A good understanding of network, multi-user access and locking issues.
Recognising critical operations and knowing when to use careful planning & preparation, rather than action.
Unix Shell scripting (Bourne/Korn)
Knowledge of ITIL
