Background
The Chartered Accountants Cork Society has over 1,300 members in Cork City and County. Long established, the Cork Society aims to

  • Represent the views and interests of local members both to the Council and Executive of the Institute and in local business organisations and media.
  • Support local members by a range of social and professional networking and development activities.

The local society works closely in conjunction with the full time staff of the Institute based in Dublin and Belfast. The Institute has a number of specialist departments that deliver services to members across the whole island of Ireland and internationally.

A voluntary elected committee comprising a number of local members delivers the local activities of the Cork Society. A Chairperson and vice – chairperson are elected annually.

The Committee of the Cork Society has been very active in recent years in scheduling a number of events on an annual basis designed to support local members. These include social, networking and professional development events with attendees ranging from 40 to in excess of 300. The role of the local development coordinator has been instrumental in coordinating such events and in liaising between the Committee, members and relevant staff of Chartered Accountants Ireland, as appropriate.

The role:
Reporting jointly to the CACS Chairperson and the Chartered Accountants Ireland Director of Member Services, and working with the CACS Committee, the Regional Development Coordinator will act as a local administrator, event manager for local activities, and point person for dealing with the full time staff of the Institute.

The role requires a person who can, on a practical level, help the committee to better understand and to address the needs of its members; who can develop a broad range of good relationships with members, companies and practicing firms; and who can assist in delivering an engaging schedule of activities for local members.

Duties & responsibilities of the role; although not confined to;

Administration

  • Enhancing and maintaining a local database of members and their interests and needs
  • Performing secretarial and communication services to support the Chairperson, Treasurer and Committee

  • Coordinating the delivery of local events for members-particularly in the area of social and professional networking
  • Assisting the Committee in securing speakers for high profile events
  • Supporting the development efforts undertaken by committee members with strong follow-through and excellent logistics and delivery
Building the knowledge of the committee about the membership and its needs

Promotion of the brand with current and prospective employers, the wider business community and local media

Supporting Chartered Accountants Ireland in the logistics of delivery of examination and Continuing

Professional Development (CPD) services in the Cork area.
