A very different experience this year as the ‘Best Places to Work Awards’ took place virtually.
Hosted by Marty Whelan the awards ceremony began with a heartfelt speech from Best Places to Work partner Jim Flynn. He described it as an emotional time, humbled with so many challenges thrown in front of people who rose to them all and continued to deliver, and all that while caring for loved ones and schooling from home, “My congratulations on all of your efforts over the past while,” he said.
Following Jim, Flynn was Tánaiste Leo Varadkar who said: “From working in the office to working from home, a shift that might have happened over a decade, happened overnight.” He said the pandemic has shown how effective technology has become, that it has taught us how to get work done without in-person contact although personal contact remains one of the key objectives for many companies. Allowing staff more choice and better work-life balance giving them flexibility. “Remote work has created jobs for people who live in rural Ireland, who have disabilities or caring responsibilities,” he said. “The pandemic has transformed the world of work forever and a great place to work is one that will listen to what people need,” he continued.
