Business movers: People starting new jobs in Ireland

Here is a selection of people starting new roles with the Local Government Management Agency, EirGrid, IDA Ireland, Greengate Biogas, Trigon Hotels and Critical Emergency Medical Response.

Pauline Mulligan has been named as chief executive of the Local Government Management Agency, the state agency that provides a range of professional services to Ireland’s 31 local authorities local authorities, working with local authority CEOs; the Minister for Housing and other Government departments. She brings extensive experience. A former assistant secretary at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, she has also been head of indigenous enterprise development responsible for oversight of Enterprise Ireland, the 31 LEOs and the nine regional enterprise plans. She led the development of Innovation 2020 and was inaugural chair of the Public Service Innovation Advisory Board in 2021.

Cathal Marley has been appointed as CEO with EirGrid Group. He joins EirGrid from his role as CEO with Gas Networks Ireland and brings over 20 years’ experience in the utilities and infrastructure sector across electricity, gas and water. He takes up the role in April. He joined Ervia in 2016 as CFO, and was appointed CEO in 2020. He holds an MBA from Michael Smurfit Business School, UCD, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a member of the DCU Governing Authority, and is on the boards of IMI and Swim Ireland. His early career was spent with EY in Dublin and Eastern Europe.

Deirdre O’Connor has been appointed as divisional manager, strategic property and regional enterprise development with IDA Ireland. She joins from NAMA, where she was deputy chief commercial officer and head of planning playing a key role in executing NAMA’s Dublin Docklands and residential business plans. She has served on the boards of Clúid Housing Association and LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice. Deirdre holds a BSc in Regional Development, a Masters in Regional and Urban Planning, an MSc in Real Estate, and a diploma in Company Direction. She is a member of the Irish Planning Institute, the Royal Town Planning Institute and the Institute of Directors in Ireland.

Edward Lilleystone has been appointed as commercial director with Greengate Biogas, a pioneering developer in the biomethane sector and a key player in Ireland’s energy transition. He brings a decade of experience in biogas, notably in feedstock profiling, technology selection, specialist contracting, and the end-market uses of biomethane, CO₂ and fertiliser products. He was a director of Metro Fuels, 2020-24, and director of Gazasia, 2010-20. He will lead planning and permitting processes, foster partnerships with key stakeholders, and oversee project performance evaluation through data analysis. He will also contribute to financial modelling and developing and implementing key strategies to achieve the company’s business goals.

Angela Canny has been appointed as group sales and marketing director with Trigon Hotels. She was previously EMEA sales director for internet marketing firm Sojern, focusing on programmatic advertising solutions for hotels. She was a partner at investment house IT Capital in Manchester, also focused on tourism and hospitality. She is a second-generation hotelier, and has worked with Marriott Hotels in Miami, Florida, USA, and with Le Meridien and Radisson groups. She has worked for Granada Studios and Guinness Storehouse before pivoting into asset management, restructuring hotels and venues across Ireland, UK, Germany and Belgium via her consultancy, Canny Solutions. She studied AI for Business Strategy at MIT.

Zoe Gallagher has been appointed as corporate fundraising officer with Critical Emergency Medical Response, responsible for the delivery of the charity’s corporate giving programmes, including its newly developed offering to Irish SMEs, to include a formal donation structure. Critical is a volunteer emergency medical response charity, now active in more than 20 counties in Ireland, and its mission is to save lives through a network of volunteer emergency medical responders. The doctor and community first responders work closely with the National Ambulance Service and are tasked to care for the sickest and most seriously injured patients. The charity’s service depends on donations from the public.
