Associate Counsel

Location: Sligo, Ireland - Hybrid possible.

Reports to: Senior Project Manager/ Origination Head of Development

About the Role:

Our client an independent renewable energy development business is looking for an Associate Counsel who has first-rate legal and business acumen, excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to creating solutions. The Associate Counsel will be primarily responsible for securing land control agreements for renewable energy projects in Ireland and Northern Ireland alongside third party service providers and internal land negotiators. The Associate Counsel may also be asked to provide legal advice on other aspects of the project development lifecycle such as planning permission, electrical grid connection agreements and equipment supply contracts. This role reports to the Senior Project Manager - Origination/Head of Development based in Sligo. The Associate Counsel will cultivate excellent relationships with internal stakeholders, external legal service providers, joint venture partners and investors. The work requires time sensitive collaboration within the company and with external service providers and landowner representatives. An ability to appreciate commercial opportunities and risks and give appropriate legal advice to team leaders is critical to the success of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of land control in Ireland including options, leases, rights of way, easements and other forms of consent related to development projects.
  • A proven ability to take a land control agreement from initial negotiation to registration on folio and to execution.
  • Good ability to balance competing priorities and maintaining an attention to detail.
  • Possess very high level of attention to quality control, information retrieval and organisation.
  • Proven ability to direct internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Excellent writing skills and interpersonal, presenting, verbal skills in office and at development sites.
  • A willingness to take the initiative and display resourcefulness.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Law or related legal field.
  • Qualified Solicitor with the Law Society of Ireland or equivalent.
  • Professional experience as a Solicitor in the property and/or energy sectors,
  • Minimum 5 years PQE and/or 2-6+ years in-house experience supporting property and/or energy transactions in Ireland.
